Principal's Message

Hello, I’m Melinda Hafenrichter, and I am proud to serve as the Principal of Yorkville Grade School.

This year marks my 20th year in Yorkville, a community that has truly become my home. I began my journey here as a classroom teacher before transitioning into leadership roles 11 years ago. Yorkville is not just where I work—it’s where my family belongs. My husband is a teacher in the district, and both of our children attend Yorkville schools. We are a Fox family through and through!

Yorkville Grade School (YGS) is one of the oldest elementary schools in the district, and we take great pride in our motto: "Small School, Big Love." With a student population of around 200, our close-knit environment allows us to build meaningful relationships with each child. We welcome parent volunteers and are fortunate to have a strong partnership with our supportive Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

At YGS, our students embody our Core Values of being Safe, Kind, and Ready. These values are woven into our daily routines, from morning meetings to classroom interactions. We celebrate students who demonstrate these qualities and are committed to supporting them academically, socially, and emotionally.

When you walk through our doors, we want you and your family to feel a sense of belonging, safety, and community. Your child’s voice matters here, their energy is valued, and our dedicated staff is here to support the whole child.
